Driving restrictions following defibrillator implantation significantly affect recipients' ability to maintain employment

Abstract Background Following defibrillator implantation or in case of ICD therapy, recipients are subject to temporary driving restrictions for private driving. Moreover, the current European recommendations permanently ban professional which can significantly alter recipients' daily life and ability maintain employment. Aim methods To investigate Danish perspective on following we distributed a questionnaire all living patients with first-time between 2013 2016 (n=3913). We linked responses relevant nationwide registers. Results Among 2741 who responded (response rate 71%, 47% primary prevention, 83% male, median age 67 years), 2513 (92%) held valid driver's license at time 175 (7%) were actively using license. Almost (n=2344, 94%) had resumed device implantation. those least 1 month either therapy (n=911), 26% stated severely impeded their life, more drivers group compared (32% vs 24%, p=0.01).
